Impression for the novel "Yuuki-san! Does the World Next to Us Really Exist?: Yuuki Nei Life Logging! Vol.2"

長らく延期されていたので、もう続きは出ないのかと思っていました。私はAmazonのお薦め表示で偶然発売を知って、即購入しました。（届いた箱に実際の物が入っていないというアクシデントもありましたが。）
そんな小説２巻ですが、今回は一言で言って「完全に初心者お断りだけど、ゲームのプレイヤーには断然お薦め」です。が、ショッキングな展開を含むので、寧がひどい目に遭うのに耐えられない人は読まない方がいいかもしれません。今回も内容がゲームのネタバレ全開のため、ここで区切りを入れます。構わない人のみ進んでください。
Since it had been delayed for so long, I was thinking it wouldn't be published any more. I just happened to know that the book was going to be out from Amazon's recommendation, then I clicked on it in no time. (There was an accident that somehow the book was not in Amazon's box arrived to my house.)
第２巻のストーリーは、寧が故郷を離れて大学に入ってから間もなく、ラシェーラに連れ去られる正にその時までを描いています。一人暮らしを始めたばかりの寧の元に、突然家出して押しかけてくる妹の綾。謎のWebテストに合格した寧は、ついに「ゲネロジックマシン」の仕様書を手に入れます。同じ頃、寧の命を脅かすような事件が起こり始め…。今回はゲームのシナリオライターの富松元気さんが監修しており、アルノサージュ本編のDLC「寧、はるか遠く」に直結する内容となっています。
２巻の物語で目立っているのは、寧の妹・綾とゆめきち（つまり私達端末プレイヤー）です。優等生だけれど、姉のように大きな夢を持たない自分に疑問を感じる綾の葛藤と成長および、すでにプレイヤーの操作を離れたにも関わらず、寧のピンチに幾度となく駆け付けるゆめきちの雄姿は、今作のハイライトです。他に「寧、はるか遠く」に登場した故郷の友人たちも関わっていて、懐かしい気持ちになりました。
※ゆめきちとは：寧が故郷にいる時に作ったロボット。ぬいぐるみくらいの大きさで、自律AIを備える。寧がプールでおぼれかけた際に助けようとして水に飛び込み、以後AIは動かなくなった（実はプレイヤーが操作していた）。
The story of Vol.2 describes the period from the time just before Nei enters the university far from her hometown and till the moment she is taken to Ra Ciela. After Nei has begun to live by herself, her little sister Aya runs away from home and comes to Nei's apartment. Nei passes a mysterious test on the web and finally gets a specification document of "Genelogic Machine". At the same time, accidents which threathen Nei's life begin to occur...Genki Tomimatsu, the scenario writer of the game, supervises this volume, and the story directly connects with the episode "Nei, Far Away" from Ar nosurge DLC.
Nei's sister Aya and Yumekichi (= us, players of the game) are standing out in the story of Vol.2. Although Aya is a straight-A student, she feels a question to herself for not having any dream like her big sister does. Her struggle and growth, and Yumekichi, who rushes to save Nei whenever she's in a pinch even though he already has left control of the player, are the highlight of this volume. Moreover, Nei's friends in her hometown who appeared in "Nei, Far Away" also appear in this story; it made me remember the old episode.
*What is Yumekichi: A robot Nei made when she was in her hometown. He is as big as a regular teddy bear; he is installed an autonomous A.I. program. He had dived into water to help Nei getting drowned in the pool, and the A.I. didn't work again after that. (The game player was actually controlling him.)
今回は設定の考察もいろいろしたいので、先に良くないと思った点を挙げていきます。
First, I'm going to point out problems I found since I want to take time to discuss about the setting.
良くなかった点
Bad Points
１．初心者に全く配慮していない
２巻だからというのもあるでしょうが、今作は完全にゲームのプレイヤー向け、特に「寧、はるか遠く」の内容を知っていることが前提です。元々ゲームのプレイヤーが読者の大半であることは確かでしょうから、半ば開き直っての方針でしょう。従って、ゲームクリア済みでない人には全くお薦めできません。（私個人としては大歓迎ですが。）
1. No consideration for beginners
Probably that's because it's the second volume of the series, this book is completely for game players only, especially for ones who know the story of "Nei, Far Away". That is supposed to be a prerequisite. I think it is true that most of the readers are the game players, so the authors dared to set the limited target. Therefore, I definitely can't recommend this book for beginners. (I personally welcome it, though.)
２．文章の難
１）誤字脱字
１巻の感想の繰り返しになりますが、今回も無視できない量の誤字脱字がありました。ただし、１巻より減っていると思います。この作品に限らず、本来誤字脱字がないことは商業小説として最低限のラインのはずなので、プロの人にはもっと頑張っていただきたいです。
２）読みにくい
また繰り返しになりますが、どうもこの作者の方の癖なのか、読みづらくするような表現をわざわざ選んだり、文章に無駄を作ったりする傾向があり、それがテンポを妨げてスムーズに理解しにくくしている箇所がところどころにあります。ただし、１巻より改善されていると思います。
2. Drawback in writings
1) Typos
I'm repeating this topic from Vol.1, but there are still certain number of typos which are not negligible in this volume either. However, I think typos are fewer than Vol.1. Not only this novel, I believe that it is the minimum requirement for all commercial novels to be with no typos; I hope professional writers to make more efforts on that.
2) Not easy to read
Again, I'm repeating the same topic. Maybe it's a habit of this author, but I noticed he tended to choose an expression making the sentence not easy to read and add unnecessary parts to the sentence. That disturbed reading and made me hard to understand the sentence smoothly at several points. However, I think it is better than Vol.1.
３．挿絵の難
１巻の時は気になりませんでしたが、今回は挿絵に問題を感じたものがありました。
１つは寧がゆめきちの修理をしている場面で、机の上がほぼ何もないように描かれている点。もう少し気合を入れて描き込んでください…。ショッピングモールで友達とお茶してるシーンなどはシンプルでもいいのですが、この場面は綾が初めて寧に感服する物語上重要なシーンであり、また作品の主旨から言っても、ここの絵は丁寧に描くべきではないかと私は思います。
もう１つはラストのゆめきちの絵。ここでは、ゆめきちは激しい戦いの末にボロボロの状態のはずなのですが、描かれている姿は妙にキレイです（頭部の真空管こそ割れているけど、それ以外に大きな傷はありません）。せっかく盛り上がった末の最後のシーンがこれでは、興ざめしてしまいます。
挿絵に関しては作者側の伝達不足もあるでしょうから、イラストレーターの方だけの責任ではないと思いますが、この２点は個人的に残念でした。
3. Problems on illustrations
I didn't have to mention in Vol.1, but I felt problems for some illustrations in this volume.
One is a drawing for the scene Nei is repairing Yumekichi. In the illustration, there is almost nothing on the desk. Please, be thorough and draw more in detail...! I think it's okay to draw simply for a scene such as when Nei is taking a break with her friends at a cafe in the mall, but this is the important point in the story which Aya admires Nei for the first time; I consider it has to be drawn elaborately according to the theme of Surge Concerto series.
Another one is Yumekichi at the last. Yumekichi is supposed to be damaged seriously after the raging battle at this time. However, such condition is not indicated in the illustration; he rather seems clean (his vacuum tubes on his head are broken, but there's no other noticeable damage). I must say it brings the mood down after the climax scene.
I suppose it is not only the illustrator's fault because lack of communication with the author's side can exist in this case, still I was personally disappointed with these two drawings.
あと、これは問題というほどではないけれど、作中で３つもの大きな事件が連続して起こっている構成が、やや単調な印象を与えているように感じました。どう考えても最初から警察沙汰のレベルで、２つめもロボコン部が取りつぶされかねないくらい深刻だと思いますが、なぜかその辺りは本の半分くらいのところまで一言も言及されていません。今回のストーリーでは、最初はもっと些細な出来事（例えば街中の信号を狂わせるだけでも、十分寧を危ない目に遭わせることができます）から始まった方が、近づいてくる恐怖をより効果的に表現できたのでは？と、私個人は思いました。
At last, I consider this is not quite a problem, but I felt the structure of story that three big accidents happen in a row gives kind of monotonous impression. Each of these accidents is very serious that the police should investigate from the first one, also I think the second case is so critical that might cause Robo-Con Club to be dissolved. But somehow any legal action is not mentioned at all until about half of the book. I think it would be more effective to express the approaching terror if more little incident happens at the beginning. (For example, just controlling traffic lights in streets would be enough to make Nei's life in danger.)
良かった点
Good Points
１．個人的感動シーン
読んでいて、私が特にじーんとしてしまったのは以下です。
１）ゆめきちの修理を手伝おうとして、失敗してしまった綾を少しも怒らず、彼女の身を心配する寧（上記で述べた１．の挿絵の場面の直前です。）
一番大切なことは何かをわかっている寧の心が窺えて、惚れ直しました。あんな理不尽な目に遭いつつも、最後までラシェーラの人々を助けることを優先して行動できたのは、彼女のこうした本質的な優しさによるものでしょう。（おそらく天文は、そういう性格適正も判断していたのでは。）
２）ゆめきちのために寧の友人たちが怒ってくれるところ
プレイヤーがゆめきちを操作したのはごく短い間ですが、それでも関わった友人たちが感謝してくれて、ゆめきちを覚えていてくれることに感動しました。引き合いに出したばかりに、総ツッコミに遭う犯人が逆に哀れに見えてしまう場面。
1. My personal impressive scenes
Followings are specific scenes that almost made me cry.
1) When Aya tried to help repairing Yumekichi and failed, Nei didn't get angry with her at all and worried her. (It is a scene just a moment before the illustration I mentioned in above.)
This scene shows that Nei knows what is the most important thing, and it made me fall in love with her again. I suppose the reason why she could give the highest priority on saving people in Ra Ciela all along even though she was in the unreasonable condition was her intrinstic kindness. (Perhaps Tenmon had checked such appropriateness of individual personality for the role, too.)
The period during the game player controlled Yumekichi was short, but I was glad to know friends remembered and thanked him. Because the perpetrator brought out about Yumekichi by himself, he was blamed by everyone there. It rather made him look pity.

２．興味深い設定の手がかり
まず綾についてですが、彼女は寧が突破したジェノミライの問題を同様に全問正解していました。魂の適合率は寧ほどではないにせよ、実の姉妹なので綾にも誘拐される候補になる素質があったのでは、と推察します。（ちなみにジェノミライの問題を読者の中で全問正解できる人はいるのか、興味あるところです。）
また、今回の話では、ゆめきちも一連の出来事とつながりがあることが提示されました。起動ログから読み取れる通り、ゆめきちに使用されているAIは、クラケットが作ったサージュコンチェルトターミナルのプログラムをさらに別の異世界からハッキングして改造し、アースで配布されたものと思われます。
私達プレイヤーが実際に経験したように、それは本当はAIではなく、インターディメンドのプログラムだったのでしょう。寧の魂を召還するため、同時期にゲネロジックマシンを仕掛けていた天文とはまた別に、犯人は寧がラシェーラに来るのを阻止しようとしていました。幸いというべきか、ゆめきちは私達が操作権を握りましたが、犯人は綾によってアース世界に干渉するチャンスを得ました。
犯人はネロを助ける目的で、ハッキングを駆使して寧を殺そうとしたわけですが、それだけの技術と、その目的を持った異世界の人物といえば、アルノサージュ本編でプレイヤーと敵対した“あいつ”しか思い当たりません（実のところ、端々にほのめかす表現があります）。しかし私個人は、小説の事件の犯人＝Botとプリムを操っていた人物が同一人物と断定するのには、懐疑的です。
※Botとは：綾のスマートフォンにインストールされたAI。綾がゆめきちのAIを無断でコピーして使用していた。実際はプレイヤー同様、異世界の人間が操作していた。
なぜかというと、プレイヤーがゆめきちと同じであることには気付かなかったとしても、もしBot＝プリムを操っていた人物であるなら、アルノサージュ本編でイオンにもっと深い恨みを抱いていてもおかしくないと思うからです。小説のラストでは、次の機会には今度こそ殺しにきそうな執念が感じられたのに対して、アルノサージュでの彼のノリはもう少し軽く見えましたし、ネロへの想いもBotが抱いていたほどではない印象を受けました。（あるいは、プリムの人格が中和していたのかも…？）実際に私達端末プレイヤーが大勢であの世界に干渉していたように、Botの側でも複数のプレイヤーが同じ目的で介入していても不思議ではないのでは？と、私は考えます。
もう１つ他の可能性としては、Botはアルノサージュの世界に介入した後に、その前の時系列のアース世界に介入してきたことが考えられます。アルノサージュではアーシェスに敗れたため、私達プレイヤーが介入する前まで遡って未来を変えてしまおうと企てたのではないか、ということです。その場合、今回の方が執着が増していることには合点がいきます。けれども、その仮定ではアルノサージュの結末でネロが元の世界に帰る未来も捨てることになります。あくまで自分の手で助けるのにこだわりたかったのかもしれませんが、やはりそこに彼の歪んだ心を感ぜずにはおれません。
いずれにしても、アルノサージュのトゥルーエンドではイオンもネロも自分の世界に帰ることができて、一応アーシェス側の勝ちになりましたが、彼女たちが帰還できたのはプリムを操っていた人物の情報があったからこそで、その意味では彼の存在もあって初めて迎えられた結末と言うべきでしょう。
2. Interesting clues of the world setting
First, I want to talk about Aya. As Nei did, she answered all the questions from Genomirai correctly. The precision ratio of her soul might not have been as high as that of Nei's, but I suppose she could have been a candidate to be kidnapped as well since she was Nei's blood relative. (By the way, I'm curious if there is anyone among readers who can pass the test.)
In addition, the story indicated that Yumekichi was also connected with the whole incident of Surge Concerto. As you can understand from the startup log, A.I. program used for Yumekichi was supposed to be a part of the programs for S.C.T. (Surge Concerto Terminal, appeared in Ar nosurge) which was created by Clackett, hacked and modified by someone from another world, then distributed in Nei's Earth.
As we, game players, actually experienced, that was not A.I. in fact, it was a program of Interdimend. While Tenmon was setting the trap of Genelogic Machine to take Nei's soul, the perpetrator was trying to stop Nei coming to Ra Ciela at the same time. Fortunately, we just happened to take control of Yumekichi, but the perpetrator got a chance to interfere with Earth world by Aya.
The perpetrator intended to kill Nei to save Nelo by making full use of cracking. I can think of only one person who has such skill and objective in another world--"the guy" who fought against me in Ar nosurge (as a matter of fact, there are several expressions which hint this idea in the novel). However, I doubt to decide that the perpetrator in the novel = Bot and the person who was controlling Prim are really the same.
*What is Bot: An A.I. program installed in Aya's smartphone. Aya copied the program from Yumekichi without Nei's permission. A person in another world was actually controlling it (as well as the player controlled Yumekichi).
Because if Bot = the person controlled Prim is true, I think he should have more strong hatred for Ion in Ar nosurge although he might not have known the player and Yumekichi are the same person. I felt his vindictiveness at the end of the novel as if he was surely going to kill us in next chance, but behavior of the person behind Prim in Ar nosurge didn't seem to be not as serious as that of Bot. Moreover, his love for Nelo was not as deep as that of Bot, I guess. (Or perhaps Prim's personality was neutralizing Bot's personality...?) I suppose it's no wonder if there are multiple players on Bot's side with the same objective, just as we, many number of players, actually interfered with the world of Ciel.
There is another possibility that Bot tried to interfere with Earth world in the past after he interfered with the world of Ar nosurge. Because he was defeated by Earthes in Ar nosurge, he might have attempted to change the future in advance by going back to the time before we interfere with the world. In that case, I can understand why his attachment to the incident gets stronger in the novel. However, this assumption means he intended to destroy the future that Nelo would go back to her own world in the ending of Ar nosurge as well. Maybe he wanted to cling to saving her by himself though, I can't help feeling his kinky mind after all.
――と、冷静に語ってきましたが、正直なところ私は今、ものすごく怒っています。
私はなんとなく、寧は何も知らないでゲネロジックマシンを使用してしまい、１巻で書かれていた妙子の妹みたいな状態で魂を抜かれたのだと以前は思っていました。だから、残された彼女の体は無傷だと考えていたのですが、実際にはユーキの事件で得た知識のおかげで、寧はすでにあれがどんな機械か理解しており、絶対に使わないつもりでいたにも関わらず、使う羽目に陥ってしまいました。…ていうか、明らかにBotに殺されてるじゃん！！！その前に三度もダイ・ハードなみの大掛かりな方法で命を狙ったのも許し難いですが、もうラストのくだりは怒髪天でした。（根本的に、ストーリーとしてあそこまでやる必要があったのか？という疑問もありますが、現実に公式として書かれているのだから仕方ありません。）
義妹をたぶらかした上に、寧にあんなひどいことをしたBotは本気で許せません。アーシェスとシエルの宇宙から永久に去ね！！と思う反面、リターン・マッチをしたくもあります。Bot＝プリムを操っていた人物だったとしても、アルノサージュでも途中で彼の接続が切れて、決着については中途半端になった感があったので、むこうも納得してはいないでしょう。小説の中ではゆめきちが代わりに戦ってくれましたが、Botには改めてきっちりお返しをしてやらないと気がすまないです。（ひょっとしたら、いつか土屋さんがその舞台を用意してくださることを密かに期待しつつ。）
--I have talked calmly so far, but to be honest, I'm God damn furious with Bot now.
At first, I used to imagine that Nei activated Genelogic Machine without any knowledge; her soul was taken in the same way as Taeko's sister described in Vol.1. Therefore, I thought Nei's body had not been wounded. However, Nei actually understood what did the machine do by the knowledge she got from Yuuki's incident, and she was forced to use it even though she was willing not to...OMG, SHE WAS OBVIOUSLY MURDERED BY BOT!!! I didn't intend to forgive him for trying to kill Nei three times before by large-scale plans as if they appear in Die Hard series or something, but I completely blew my top at the last part of the book. (Fundamentally, I want to ask the authors whether they really needed to do that, but there's nothing I can do now since it has been already written as official.)
Seriously, I can never forgive Bot for deceiving my sister-in-law and screwing over Nei such terribly. I want to tell him to GET OUT FROM SPACE OF EARTHES AND CIEL FOREVER!! Yet, I hope to see him for revenge one more time. Even if Bot = the person behind Prim, his connection was broken in the middle of the battle, and our fight was ended kind of halfway in Ar nosurge. Thus I suppose Bot hasn't accepted the result either. Yumekichi fought with Bot instead of ourselves in the novel, but still I feel it won't be able to be settled down unless I can pay him back. (I'm secretly looking forward that Director Tsuchiya will provide such opportunity for us in the future.)
それにしても、寧が元の世界に帰らなかった場合、あの状況だと不審死どころか完全に殺人事件扱いになっていると思います。おそらく綾はそれがどのようにして起こったのかすぐに悟り、以後一生自分を責めたであろうに違いないことを考えると、寧が帰還できたのはやはりあらゆる意味で最善の結末だったのだと思わざるを得ません。（アンケートに答えると、寧がラシェーラから戻った後のSSも読めます。）ネロも同時に自分の世界へ帰った時点で可能性軸を移動しているため、寧も無事に生き返ることができました（戻った時に瀕死だったら大変じゃないかと心配しました）。全ては丸くおさまった一方で、どこかの別の人間が代わりにシエル世界へさらわれている可能性もありますが…。
この先、寧はもちろん、綾や他の友人たちにも幸せが訪れることを願ってやみません。サージュコンチェルトの関連商品は本当にこれでもう終わりと思われますが、小説２巻は最後にふさわしい濃い内容でした。ゲームプレイヤーの人は、読んで損のない出来だと思います。
Nevertheless, in case that Nei didn't go back to her own world, her death would be definitely handled as a murder, not a suspicious death. I suppose Aya would understand how did it happen right away, and I can easily imagine she would blame herself for her life. Considering such possibility, I believe the fact Nei could go back was the best ending in all senses. (You can also read the additional short story after Nei comes back from Ra Ciela by answering the questionnaire.) Nei could come back to life again since Nelo went back to her world at the same time so that Nei moved the possibility axis. (I was worried that Nei would suffer if her body was seriously injured when she went back.) Everything was settled peacefully now, but on the other hand, there might be someone else who was taken to Ra Ciela instead of Nei and Nelo...
I pray for happiness of Nei, of course, Aya and other friends thereafter. Related products of Surge Concerto series probably truly ends here; Vol.2 of the novel is suitably good enough as the final product. I think it is worth to read for game players!
